DESCRIPTION

Today we are going to be learning the beginning skills of hand dribbling. We are going to complete 3 different drills, each focusing on one skill where we will then demonstrate our hand dribbling using all of the skills we will learn today.

Our first drill is going to be surfer pop ups. I want you all laying on the ground at the baseline where i will give you a number between 1 and 3.

If i call your number i want you to pop up into a surfer position, really focusing on bending your knees and having our legs comfortably spaced apart. This enables us to move in any direction we want. we are going to do this 10 times each.

(go through each group number and watch students pop up into the surfer position and help if they need it)

The second drill we are going to be doing is stationary wall/cone taps at waist height and standing just short of arms length away from the wall. We are again, on the baseline and in our same numbered groups, are going to be taking turns to stand in our surfer position (knees bent and legs comfortably apart) and tapping the spot on the wall/tapping the top of a cone. Each group will be called 5 times, and when you are called i want you to tap the wall at waist height 10 times. This focuses on leaning the trunk forward slightly, which moves our centre of gravity forward and facilitates moving the body forward.

(go through each group number and watch students tap the spot on the wall and assess their trunk lean and help if they need it)

The Final skill we will be focusing on is using spread fingertips to control the ball. It is important to spread our fingers and use our fingertips so that we aremt slapping the ball and losing control of it. In your numbered groups we are going to line up behind a cone where the first person of each group will then walk along the line between two cones whilst dribbling the ball at waist height, this will be done 10 times each. Remember to bend your knees and lean forward slightly when walking along the line.

Finally, we will be jogging, weaving between cones while incorporating all the skills we learned today to control the ball and learn how to dribble in direction. Each group will go through the final drill 5 times each when I say go.
