Jump and Catch - Two Shot Stopper

The keeper jumps sideways over the three gates, and then moves quickly into the center of the goal ready to catch the first feeder's shot which is played high to stretch the keeper. The keeper then plays the first ball back out and moves to meet the second ball which is played hard and low along the ground. The keeper dives to stop this shot, rolls it back out again and then jogs back to the start - ready to repeat again.

This drill simulates recovering, running quickly back onto your line. The keeper starts the drill by sprinting out to touch the penalty spot with their hand. Once they've touched the penalty spot they run backwards as quickly as then can to get back onto their line. As soon as the keeper has taken a couple of steps back the feeder plays a lobbed ball to try and go over the keeper into the goal.

Keeping Triangle Goalkeeping -...

Standing on the first cone of the triangle the keeper catches the volleyed ball into their body and then throws it back out to the feeder. They then move around the next cone. After they've run around the second cone the second feeder passes the ball along the floor at the third cone. The keeper dives low to catch the ball and then returns it before getting to their feet to catch the third ball which has been passed to the first cone by the third feeder. Drill continues in this way.

Can be used with one or more keepers simultaneously. Place a ball on either side of your keepers, within diving reach. Your keepers should be stood in the middle of these two balls on their cones. When the coach / player gives the signal (stretching a hand out to the left or the right) your keepers should react as quickly as possible and dive to catch the ball on that side.

In and Out Catch Slalom Goalke...

Set up a line of equally spaced poles. Keeper starts at the far end and moves quickly in and out between each of the poles in sequence - moving left and then right. Once they move out (to the right) the feeder plays a mid-pace volley into their body. The keeper catches this ball and throws it back out before continuing to move between the poles and catching the next ball.

A progression from the attacking header drill. The jump adds extra power and purchase to the header and means the player can meet the ball in the air earlier that if they didn't jump.

Near Post - Middle Shot Goalke...

The keeper covers the near post and stops the shot from the first feeder. After they've gathered the ball they roll it back and then move quickly around the edge of the coned area to close down the angle on the next shot. The middle shot is played low by the second feeder and the keeper must react quickly to get down and try to smother/block this second ball.

Start with both feet inside one of the rungs and jump both feet outside the ladder (so the ladder is between both feet) then jump with both feet inside the next rung.

One player throws the ball to the other player's head. The throw should be slightly in front of the heading player so that they need to meet the ball in the air. The returning header should also be slightly long, meaning the catching player needs to back track slightly in order to catch the ball.

Put one foot in one of the rungs and the other outside. Start by bringing the outside foot towards the foot inside the rung and the inside foot to outside the ladder on the opposite side to the starting foot.

Hello all! My kids aged 9 and 7 are very slow when compared to their peers of the same age. They don't seem to fight for the ball and get and watch others play their game. They seem to lack the urgency (heart) needed for the game. (They LOVE football). How can make them move around and react faster. Any help you are able to provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks O
