Hi I am a assistant coach for our under 12yr old team and wondered if anyone can help me with coaching tips for our goal keeper.
I have covered all of the ones on the web page but need coaching tips for jumping techniques as our goalie is quite short and needs to gain balance
Many thanks
Andy
Hi Andy,
if height is the issue with your goalkeeper I would try some high ball drills to work on their jumping ability.
Get your keeper to stand a couple of meters off the goal line and throw some underhand throws - at first just requiring your keeper to jump and catch the ball on the spot but then start throwing higher and deeper, in an attempt to lob them.
This means your keeper will need to back pedal, jump and catch the ball (working on their balance, speed and co-ordination).

Set pieces account for roughly a third of all goals in football, yet many coaches spend surprisingly little time coaching defensive organisation at corners and free kicks. This article compares zonal and man marking systems, explores hybrid approaches, and provides a practical session structure for building set piece resilience into your team.
A player's first touch determines everything that follows: whether they can play forward, turn, or simply retain the ball. This article explores why training first touch in isolation is not enough, and how to design sessions that develop this critical skill under realistic game pressure.
The coaching methodology revolution sweeping grassroots football - and how to implement it at your club this season.
