important tips to help develop a great setter?

What are some great tips to give to setters when developing a smart, AWESOME setter? I was not a setter when I played, I know the basics but not enough to take my setter to the next level. She really wants to play college volleyball as well.

Hi Brooke, one thing that I think helps players take their ability to the next level across all sports is getting in position and ready as soon as possible. Encourage your setter to try and read the game a few shots ahead and anticipate what her next job will be, and where she needs to be to do that. If you have taught the basics all right then reaching the next level of the game will be more about what you are doing with the ball and not how you do it. Once a player starts to think more tactically the skills become automatic.
