How can I improve my players' enthusiasm when training and playing the game?
hi scott
enthusiasm is a direct reflection of how challenging, and fun/interesting you have made your session, and whether you are coaching, it is also a direct correlation to what they want to get out of it. if you were use to coaching top level teams, that the drills, and the challenge of pushing themselves to the limit engages them, and now you have a team that just wants to play for fun, obviously they arent going to want to push themselves that much. the opposite is also true. so find out what the team wants to get out of the year. if its just to have fun, then aim your sessions more at the fun side, with learning drills. fun reward system for participation. if its competitive, then you need to discuss with them why they don't want to participate with the energy you need. it could be that the drills you have are not challenging enough for them. so first step. talk with your team and find out their overall drive to be there, and go from there.
Hope that helps.
