Teach your pupil the semi-western forhand, where the face of the racket is almost parallel to the ground on your backswing, and then encourage them to forward swing up the back of the ball with the racket going from a low to high motion. Make the racket strings brush the ball as opposed to hitting it. Aim for high over the net and explain the effects of topspin as the ball `dips` due to the aerodynamic properties of the spin. demonstrate first. Then get the pupil to do themselves by them dropping a ball from a standing position near the net and to practice the brush up motion. By being near the net, the pupil can exaggerate the low to high action, and see the dipping effect if they are successful in administering the spin. Using a multi-coloured ball will exacerbate the spin.

here is a more proper way of teaching topspin... well first have your student hold the Rackett with the western grip like andre agassi for example then the rackett will be a little bit closed have them turn 160 degrees and make a C motion and go under the ball and brush from bottom to top and follow thru all the way up that will make a great affect on the ball when it bounces to the other side it will jump up high ... joseph lee Pro 1 ...
