How to win senior 70´s tournament singles? Strategy?
Well... you need to develop a good dropshot and a good lob!
I was given this advice by none other than Lorne Main and he has won 39 World Titles in various age groups!
Control the center of the court and move in to the net. That age group mainly just gets the ball back down the center so forget the sides and concentrate on the center. Use you drop volley and be ready to turn sideways when lobbed plus get that racket back for an overhead real early and point to the coming ball with you non-racket finger.
Movement or lack of is a big part of this group. We all lose a step or two as we age (but make some of it up with experince). Side to Side and Up and Back are good ways to move the player, if you have a good drop shoot of ,course throw it in. I would also think about your serve as it could hurt you. Make sure you have a good deep serve to keep the returner from using a drop shot return on you. Serve into body. Also work on a great topspin lob to move the player back on the fence. High Five to you for playing into your 70's and best wishes for many more years of tennis.
