This video shows the athlete demonstrating the technique of volleying/setting above the head, which is commonly used during a volleyball game.
Firstly the athlete throws the ball about a metre above his head, and performs the setting movement, pushing the ball about 3m above his head, and catching the ball. The action is then repeated.
During the setting motion, once the ball has been thrown above the head, the athlete keeps his eyes on the ball and has his arms straight and extended above the head. His fingers are seperated and form a shape which the ball can fit into. Just before the ball comes into contact with the athlete's hands the athlete slighlty bends his elbows and his wrists are flexed backwards. When the ball lands into his hands, his fingers and thumbs contact the ball, and the ball is immediately pushed upwards by quickly extending the wrists and elbows, performing the setting movement.
The video footage collected is fairly stable, showing the upper body portion of the athlete, and shows the full movement of the elbows, hands and fingers during the setting movement. There is adequate lighting in the video which allows the full movement to be shown without any difficulty.
The video could have been recorded at different angles to show what the motion would look like from different angles, and to remove the background distractions. The full body of the athlete could have also been recorded to show how the lower body might move during the setting movement.
