DRILL TYPE: Learning to Rally
A fun game to work on hitting groundstrokes at a target.
1. Setup a line of 3 to 4 poly spots in the service box, starting near the net and back to the service line.
2. On the opposite side of the net in the service box, place 2 hoops for targets.
3. The coach is on opposite side of the net with a basket of balls and is standing on the service line at the T.
4. One child at a time start on the spot closet to the net, the coach will toss a ball to the child, who hits it back over the net and at the target.
5. When the child hits the target, he or she moves back 1 spot for the next toss.
6. If the child is unsuccessful, he or she moves 1 spot forward ( unless already at the first position).
7. The object of this game is to make it to the last spot for a point. If they make it to the last spot it's is 3 or 4 points.
Progression:
1. After they have mastered this game, make it a competition game.
Tips:
1. Explain to the children not to rush the hits.
Safety:
1. Ensure children are well spread out behind the baseline when not hitting.
2. Use only 2 rackets per line or team.
