Arrange the boys and girls so that they are standing on a cone each, closest to the net. There are 3 players on the hitting side, with fiftenn balls in their basket and a tennis racket. There will be a basket on the other side to make picking up the tennis balls easier when the game is done.
There will be 4 cones lining up behind each player all the way out to the baseline, where it's the right length to serve a tennis ball in a game.
They will take a hit at every cone trying to get it over the net. With every successful hit they move back, and will every failed attempt they move forward (towards the start line). They first player to get all the way to the baseline wins. The game will be three times.
Objective: Each player should have 5/15 shots that are successful (make it over the net) during the trial of the modified game.
This game will help younger students get better on hitting in general and doing so all at different lengths of the court.
Common Errors:
-The ball wont make it over the net
-missing the ball when hitting
Causes & corrections:
-weight transfer of your feet is off, not extending through the swing, so put all the weight on the back foot and transfer it to the front during the toss. Also try to throw the ball a little farther out of reach so you have to extend to hit it
-the footwork is off, so be ready and bent for when the ball comes, keeping an eye on the ball when it comes into contact
