Review Lay up Technique: (Right Handed Player) *Walk through with the entire class.
Each student should have a ball go through the steps* Begin by holding the ball in both hands, Triple threat position, feet parallel and shoulder-width apart. Step forward with the left foot and let the ball bounce once near this foot. Catch the ball in both hands off the dribble, step right foot, then left foot, keeping the ball on the right side of you body. Now push upward off your left foot, driving the right knee up to increase the height of your jump.
The right hand is placed on top of the ball, the left hand is on the side of the ball for support. Keep both hands on the ball until you reach the height of your jump, bringing the ball up to a shooting position. Now your right hand wrist should be cocked back to release the ball of your fingers. Release the ball softly against the backboard with the target being the top right hand corner on the back board. Keep your eyes on the target and follow through where you want the ball to go.
Snatch Ball:
Split students into two teams facing one another on either side of the court. Have two games going at once. (both ends of the gym). Players number themselves off, their should be no repeating numbers. Place two balls in the center between the two teams. When their number is called they run out grab the ball and do a lay-up. Collect your own rebound and place the ball back at center.
Progression:
Place one ball in the center and the players race out the middle and compete to get the ball. The first player their does a lay-up.
