Hi all, great website. Just wondering if anyone has any tips/drills on really drumming into the kids that as soon as they get passed the ball they must dribble/shoot/pass rather than just running (and travelling!) down the court! Bear in mind these are beginner little girls who have never played before!! I'm doing lots of dribbling drills but thought you might all have some tips. Thanks in advance :)
Hi Rose,
Great Question!! As you know it is extremely important to encourage young players to be familiar with the feel and weight of the ball and be comfortable.
A fun way to start this that I have used, is to simply encourage them to firstly bounce an increasing number of times without losing control. I call this "Round the clock". When they can sucessfully get to maybe 10/20 bounces then they move on to a dribble relay, where they then attempt to dribble through a short slalom course.
Please let me know if there is anything else we can help with here at Sportplan - & GOOD LUCK!!!
