60% of the team never played with set plays, and have some dificulties to deal with it.
Hi Rui,
This is a regular hurdle for coaches with players who are new to the game. I recommend that you try to keep it simple and encourage your more experienced players to give some extra ideas and encourage those who have never experienced set plays.
To start with, keep it really simple with some unopposed drills that start to lay down the idea of set-plays to develop the players understanding of movement both for the ball and off the ball to create space.
This 3-man motion drill is a great starting point to build upon as it encourages the players to receive a pass, give it back and re-lead in a set motion - something that will be very important in more complex set-plays.
I hope this helps and your team soon start to rule to courts.
Hi Rui,
It can be difficult to coach new players to understand the concept of set plays and what you are trying to achieve. I think the key point you should try and put across to new players is that they should be trying to create space away from defenders. Here is another drill that I like because it gets players to think about moving after they pass.
Good Luck!
