1 Techniques

Jump and Throw - Spike development

Players have a ball each and make an attacking approach with the ball in hand.

As they reach the net they should put the ball behind their head, jump and throw the ball over the net into the opposition court.

Attacking Jump-Volley

The person on the side of the mats feeds the ball to the two players opposite who communicate and pass the ball to the net for the ball to be set up for an attacking jump-volley to the mat that has not been occupied by the feeder.

This means that the attacking player needs to work on creating a good field of vision and observe where the feeder has moved to.

2 Warm Up

Two Player Set

Players work in pairs setting the ball to one another first time. This can be done with players facing each other without a net or with one player on each side of the net.

Player 1 sets the ball across to player 2 who sets the ball back again.

Ensure passes have enough height on them to allow the rally to continue smoothly.

Bounce Up and Receive

Volley the ball to your partner who volleys the ball to themselves one time whilst you do two block jumps this is then repeated by your partner.

Throw and Catch 2

Throw the ball in the air using two hands, move to where the ball is coming down then jump and catch the ball at the highest point of the jump with arms fully extended.

Volley and Follow

Start with a throw or volley, then the player follows the ball and joins the queue of players at the other side of the net, this is then repeated for amount of time or number of repetitions (if an error is made you can make them start again, this helps to make them concentrate). You can also add little extra bits i.e. touch the opposite end baseline before joining the queue or do two blocks at the net on your way through.
