DESCRIPTION

This drill can be used as a base for a variety of attacks

Player 1 (acting as an opposition player) serves to player 3 who defensive digs to player 4. Player 4 sets the ball to player 2, who will have made an attacking run to meet the ball and smashes over the net

COACHING POINTS

The attacking run from Player 2 should arc to attempt to decieve the opposition as to where player 2 will smash

A slightly more advanced drill involving a pass to set and smash.

2 Player Set With Swap

In groups of 4, pair up and set the ball to each other. On the blow of a whistle, all players swap to the other side of the net, whilst continuing to set to each other.

Roll ball under net to partner

3 Player Dig Set and Smash Drill

Feed to player 2 who defensive digs the ball to player 1 to set to player 2, who smashes the ball to player 3 who defensive digs the ball to player 2 to set to player 3.

4 Player Passing

Start the game by volleying the ball over the net to the player at the back of court. They then overhand pass the ball to the player at the net who sets the ball up for the player to move forward and play the ball over the net by making a spike approach and tipping the ball to the back court defender . This then is repeated for a set number, length of time or can be made competitive.

Coach feeds the ball for the player to practice the correct footwork for an attack approach to jump and catch.

A number of players have a ball each make an attack approach put the ball behind their head jump and throw the ball over the net into court. As they do this they should keep good posture and let their arms follow through

Team Passing - Attacking One Handed Tip 2

The person on the side of the mats feeds the ball to the two players who communicate pass the ball to the net for the ball to be set up for an attacking one handed tip to the mat that has not been occupied by the feeder. This means that the attacking player needs to work on creating a good field of vision and observe where the feeder has moved to.

Underhand Serving 3

Stage three of the serving progressions; throw the ball to go over the net and bounce once to your partner stepping forwards with the opposite leg to the hand that you roll with (using body weight) and releasing the ball slightly higher.
