Move to Make Space - The 3 Cuts

In this session we look at ways for your players to lose their marker. With only 5 players per team it can often be difficult for players to find enough space to receive a pass, all the more when playing against stronger teams your players will have to work extra hard to create an opening which is why we work on a number of different cuts to help them slice through the opposition's defence and make space in which they can receive the perfect pass.

Depending on the level of your players you can chose to teach this session as a whole or as a two-part session, coaching your players a number of different shaped cuts to use in game to outfox their marker. Right from the start your players will already have to start thinking about avoiding the defender, playing a game of British bulldog for their warm-up which will see them running from one side of the court to the other without being caught. After this fun warm up your players will work their way through a series of different cuts.

A change of pace and direction should be the key learning objective for your players to improve their chances of receiving the ball, especially if they are being man-marked. This session starts with the simple V cut and then covers more complicated moves such as the L and S cuts.
