DESCRIPTION

DRILL TYPE: Learning to Rally

A great drill to work on hitting the ball for groundstroke.

Setup:

  1. Place 3 poly spots across the court on the service line, one just inside the service line at the T and the other 2 on the singles sideline and service line ( see diagram).
  2. Place 1 racquet on opposite sideline one for the right handers and one for the left handers.
  3. The coach is on the opposite side of the net with a basket of balls.

Mission:

  1. Divide the children into 2 lines ( left handers and right handers).
  2. Have the children pick up a racquet on either the Ad or Deuce side of the court on the doubles sideline move to hit a forehand or backhand groundstroke.
  3. They move to the different spots and hit a groundstroke over the net.
  4. If the children make all 3 spots it’s a point.

PROGRESSION:

  1. After they have mastered this technique, make it a competition.
  2. Explain to the children not to over hit and keep the ball under control.

TIPS:

  1. Left handers should go before or after the right handers and start from the deuce side.

SAFETY:

  1. Ensure players are well spread.
