DRILL TYPE: Learning to Rally
A great drill for young children to develop their hitting skills for the groundstroke.
1. Setup a teaching tee ( batting tee) at the service line at the T, place 2 teaching feet where they should stand sideways to hit the ball.
2. Each child will come up, place their feet on the teaching feet, where they should stand sideways and hit a ball over the net with a forehand or backhand.
3. Have them hit four forehands in a row get back in line.
4. After all have done their four forehands, switch to the backhand side.
Progression:
1. You can make it a competition game, using 2 teaching tee with 2 lines going.
Tips:
1. For pre- tennis , move the teaching tee in the center of the center service line.
Safety:
1. Only the child hitting should have a racket and ensure players are well spread out.
