DRILL TYPE: Tennis Skills
FOCUS: Sending and Receiving
SKILL LEVEL: Pre-Tennis
A great partner drill for young children to develop their racket and ball hitting skills.
ORGANIZATION: Students in pairs in open space. Each pair has a ball and two rackets.
1. Child #1 hit the ball on the ground to child #2.
2. Child #2 trap the ball with their racket strings and hit the ball on the ground to child #1.
CUES:
PROGRESSION:
1. After they have mastered this technique, see how many conservative hit, trap and returns they can achieve.
TIPS:
1. Ensure the children work together as a team.
2. Ensure the children keep the ball under control and rackets down on the ground with short swings.
SAFETY:
1. Make sure the players use racket control.
2. Ensure players are well spread out.
