3-Ball Feed From the Coach

DESCRIPTION

DRILL TYPE: Groundstrokes ( Group Drill)

EQUIPMENT:

  1. (2) Poly Spots, (1 Green), (1. Orange)
  2. Yellow Throw Down Lines
  3. Foam or Red Balls
  4. (2) 25” Youth Racquets

SETUPS:

  1. Set up 2 Poly Spots on the service line for the hitting spot, in the backcourt about 10 feet from the baseline, place throw down lines for the safety zone.
  2. The coaches are on the opposite side of the net with a basket of foam or red balls.

MISSION:

  1. Divide your players into two lines behind the throw down lines.
  2. One player at a time will come to the spots, pick up the racquet, turned sideways to target.
  3. The coach will hand toss the ball to the players forehand or backhand side , who will hit a forehand or backhand groundstroke over the net.
  4. Each player will hit 3-balls from the coach, after the 3 hits, the players will go and pick up their balls and bring back to the basket and return to the back of the line.

PROGRESSIONS:

  1. After they have mastered this technique, make it into a competitive game ( Hit for Points).

COACHING POINTS

Encourage the players to keep their eyes on the ball and get sideways to target.

Ensure players are well behind the safety zone.

After hitting the ball, make sure players ground racquet on the poly spot.
