Hi Duru, here are several ways to make the 1-on-1 Box Out drill harder:
Smaller space: Reduce the size of the box so players have less room to manoeuvre, increasing contact and reaction time.
Add a rebound: Have the coach or feeder shoot so players must locate, box out, and secure the rebound rather than just make contact.
Limit reaction time: Use a whistle or visual cue to signal the shot, forcing defenders to react instantly.
Add competition: Make it continuous â winner stays on, or keep score for successful rebounds.
Increase physical pressure: Allow slight contact or introduce a second attacker to simulate game traffic.
Add movement before contact: Start players in motion (e.g., cutting or sprinting into the box) so they must find their opponent before boxing out.
Time constraint: Give defenders only a few seconds to secure the rebound and outlet the ball.
I hope this helps!
