Barge Ball

Players stand on both sides of the net and all players have a ball in their hand. They are supposed to jump at the same time as the player opposite them and try to barge the opponent's ball out of their hands.

8 Block Drills

Block

A feeder feeds the ball over the net for an attacker to move in. Make an attack approach and hit, while the blocker looks at how the attacker lines up on their approach and jumps and blocks. Be aware, the feed has to be accurate as you don't want the attacker jumping into the net and injuring the blocker. If you do a bad feed make the hitter realise they should not jump.

8 Block Drills

Block and smash

The player with the ball throws the ball up towards the net, setting themsleves up to then try and smash the ball onto the target mat. The player on the other side of the net has to try and block the smash and stop it hitting the target.

Land on the leg for breaking, put the other foot down and jump to block, don't drift in the block, and land in the same place as you take off. The blocker on the outside gets in the correct position. The feeder on the platform throws the ball up and the blocker moves to block. The outside blocker needs to be in front of the feeders hitting arm and both blockers need to be penetrating the net trying to block the ball. Start off easy and feed the players rhythm, as the players get more competent, increase the speed and distance they have to move.

8 Block Drills

8 Block Drills

Attack Line Jumps

Players run along the sideline as far as the attack line where they performs squat-jumps followed by three quick jumps. The drill starts and ends with runs that involve arm swinging.

8 Block Drills

Block And Run

8 Block Drills

Blocking From Settled Spot

Two players stand on one side of the net attacking, while one player is on the other side and will be the blocker. On the attacking side, a player overhand passes the ball to a team mate who sets it back to him to spike. The blocker jumps from a settled spot and blocks the attacked ball.

8 Block Drills

Blocking Spikes

Players stand opposite each other on different sides of the net. One player will be the spiker and one will be the blocker. Players throw the ball up for themselves to spike, and the blockers jump up to block the ball.

8 Block Drills

Blocking Throws

Players stand on either side of the net, with one player throwing the ball up for their team mate to block.

8 Block Drills

Cross Step To Block 2

Two feeders on platforms 3-4 metres apart, feeding alternately for a blocker who cross steps to block. The feeders should feed at the blockers pace when starting and increase pressure as blockers become more competent.

8 Block Drills

8 Block Drills

One player stands on one side of the court, with three on the other who have a few balls each. They throw balls to difference parts of the court for the player to run and dig.

8 Block Drills

8 Block Drills

Three players stand on one side of the net, one in zone 2, one in zone 3 and one in zone 4. These players set the ball in the air and then set to the next player, while a fourth player on the other side of the net follows the ball and jumps to block when each player sets it in the air.

8 Block Drills

Run and imitatation

Players start lined up on the baseline. Firstly, they run to the net, touch it and return to their starting point. Then, they imitate a jump serve, on landing they run forward and imitate a spike. To finish they continue running to the net and imitate a block. They then return back to their starting point.

8 Block Drills
