Mark out continuations of the outside tram lines behind the court.
Play out normal points but player can claim bonus points if the win the point after 'pushing' their opponent beyond the tram-lines.
Moving Opponent, Opening up the court
-Alternate feeding to forehand and backhand side.
-Players in line shadow hit behind the front player.
-After two strokes hitters move to back of alternate lines.
Forehand & Backhand Drill
-Both players have cones approx 2 meters in front of base line (depending on players skill level.
-Players gain a point each time they hit between the cone and the base line.
-First player to 11 points wins the game.
To make the drill easier it can be played on one half of the court and later progressed to full court.
The game can also be started with with a second serve.
Players start off in doubles alley (Forehand Corner) and moves along baseline hitting 2 backhands.
This drill should be used to help players deal with easy balls and get them to attack the ball.
The coach starts the drill with a mid-court feed, at various heights.
The player has to hit the ball to the targets either deep or angled.
The coach feeds 6 balls and then the next player starts.
-Players hit forehands aiming for the line. -Players maintain high net clearance to achieve consistency. -Three points are deducted from the final score (i.e. the rally count) for each shot that was hit into the net. -After 2 minutes see which pair held the longest rally. -After one or two rounds swap to backhand.
Coach feeds the ball to the forehand side. Player hits an offensive forehand down the line. Coach then feeds a short ball to the ad side. Player steps forward and hits offensive backhand down the line.
1 vs 1, with a second person at one end who takes over as soon as the point has finished. Therefore 1 person plays continuously, whereas the other 2 switch every point. The player at the 2 person end starts with the ball and the other player starts on the left hand side of court. The ball is played crosscourt to the right corner for the continuous player to run onto. Players then rally until the point is won. Then revese the direction of the run in. Rotate between the 3 players so that each person has a turn at being the continuous player.
Players get into pairs. Each pair takes on another pair in a cross court competition. Players take it in turns to hit the ball deep into the coned area. Every time a ball is hit short the receiving player can hit a winner down the line to score a point. The players who hit the short ball can try to recover and return the down the line winner. If they manage to return the shot they do not lose a point. Next rally starts again.
Purpose: Teaches players when to keep ball in the same direction and when to change and that players need to recover position towards centre of court. Players rally 4 balls crosscourt from either corner. Then the point is "live". Play to 11 points
Player starts from the centre of the court. Coach feeds balls to the ad side. Player alternates hitting offensive forehand inside in and backhand drop shot down the line.
Player stands on the baseline. Coach feeds balls to the forehand side. Player alternates hitting a deep forehand slice cross-court and a forehand drop shot down the line.
Players are working in threes with player 1 working in the whole court against players 2 and 3. Players are rallying co-operatively but with players 2 and 3 moving player 1 around the court a little. Player 1 can hit to either side in any order. If player 1 hits a ball that lands long they get 2 points, beyond the service line but before the longline they get 1 point, in the service box they get no points. Should they miss a ball long or wide they get minus 1 point, and in the net minus 2 points. Players 2 and 3 must count out loud, and player 1 is trying to get to 25 points as quickly as possible. The length of time it takes is timed and players can compete within themselves in the 3 or combined against other courts if the group is larger.
Players feed the ball in from hand and rally up and down the middle of the court. At any time, player 1 can choose to hit a shot that will bring player 2 forward to the net. This shot must be hit inside the service box and can be a short slice or dropshot. The point is then live from the next ball. Players play first to 7 before switching roles.
Set up as shown with three cones close to the net, with these cones being the player's target on their second shot. Player and coach stand at the net, and the coach feeds the ball to the forehand side. The Player hits a forehand volley to the coach who then hits it back to the backhand side, where the player must react quickly to backhand drop volley the ball cross-court, aiming to get the ball in between the three cones.
One player stands in the deuce corner, with their opponent stood in the middle of the baseline at the other end. They are moved around the court by the player in the deuce corner, who can hit the ball anywhere on the court, while the other player can only hit forehands to the deuce side.
Players rally up and down the middle of the court cooperatively. They must try and hit as many contacts as they can within a timed one minute period, regardless of whether the ball goes out or in the net. This one minute period is repeated 5 times with 1 minute in between each repetition for players to recover and collect balls ready for the next working slot.
Player keeps cone in both hands. Coach serves to deuce side. Player catches the ball into the cone after the first bounce. Player takes the ball out of the cone and throws back to coach using dominant hand.
Player 1 - is working on change of direction on forehand. 2 forehands cross court, 1 forehand down the line Player 2 - feeding - can work on lateral movement and consistency, 2 cross court forehands and 1 back hand line.
Players get into pairs. Each pair plays against another pair rallying inside the tram line. The two players rotate in each team, taking it in turns to hit the ball using only their forehand. Every time the ball stays inside the tram lines they score a point The first pair to score 10 is the winner.
Coach, 4 players, basket of tennis balls. Working in half the court player 1 starts on the baseline. Coach feeds the ball for player 1 to play a deep forehand. A rally starts, and player 1 advances to play a mid court forehand, then moves forward to the net to play 2 backhand volleys. Player 1 joins the queue. Repeat the drill for players 2,3, and 4. The drill is continuous.
4 players. 2 on each side of the net. Player 1 hits a deep forehand,and a rally starts with each player hitting a deep forehand shot. When it is player 1's turn again they hit a deep backhand shot, and the rally continues. Rally alternates between forehand and backhand shots. Repeat the drill. The drill is continuous.Â
Player stands on the baseline. Coach stands at the net on the ad side. Player and coach rally together. Player uses only forehand stroke and hits all the balls down the line. After receiving short ball player runs to the ball and hits forehand cross-court winner.
