DESCRIPTION

  • Player starts on the baseline.
  • Coach feeds the balls to the forehand side.
  • Player jumps on left leg and executes forehand on left leg.

COACHING POINTS

  • In this drill, player works on proper distance to the ball while hitting forehand from the close stance.
  • Using left leg in front of the body for right handers is a useful tool to deal with shorter balls and to allow player to attack the balls and come to the net.
  • A lot of players struggle with proper distance to the ball and that is why they wait for the ball instead of stepping inside the court.
  • To correct this wrong habit, players should jump on one leg to “feel” the distance. It is almost impossible to hit well while being too close or too far away from the ball and being on one leg.
  • By performing this exercise, players learn how to correct their position and later on, it will be easier for them to set up good positioning before hitting an offensive forehand.
