Tennis: Volley the point into life

Your tennis drills are extremely useful coaching tools.
Nail, Tennis coach

DESCRIPTION

The court is cut down the middle in this game, with one player standing on the base line and the other just outside the service box.

To start the point the player from the base line feeds a short ball to the player on the other side of the net who has to try and volley the ball back over the net before the point is live.

COACHING POINTS

Volleying in tennis is a risky move where players put pressure on their opponent by coming closer to the net, thus reduing the angle for their opponent.

The speed of your opposition's shot should do most the work in this stroke so don't swing at the ball, instead meet it in the air and with a short punchy movement strike the ball downwards into the opposition's court.

Finally, players should follow through in the direction which they want their shot to go in.

Notes:

Two groups can play at the same time, in half the court each.

Look for soft hands and shot consistency.

Swap roles after each point played.

Play first to 10 points.
