DESCRIPTION

Both players are rallying in the service box, however Red 1 must 1/2 volley every shot back to Blue 1. After ten shots, continue the volley but Blue 1 must then 1/2 volley.

COACHING POINTS

The 1/2 volleyer must try to keep low to the ground.

With more advanced players, Blue 1 could vary the depth and width of each ball.

Perfect it in the box!:

-Players take it in turns to play volleys and ground strokes in the service box.
-Players swop round after approximately 3 minutes.

Volley Drills

Quick hands: Rat-a-tat volleys:

Both players are at the net in the volley position, rallying cooperatively to each other for 1 minute.

Players are trying to achieve as many volleys as they can in one minute. If they hit the ball into the net or the opposing player can't reach the ball, the next ball is fed in immediately and the drill continues.

The minute is repeated 5 times with the players resting for 1 minute between sets to recover and think of ways to improve their score!

Scores are counted and can be compared with other courts or players to make the drill competitive.

Players work in groups of 2-6.

Players get in a circle and attempt to keep the ball in the air for as long as possible.

Touch at the net:

-One player is positioned on the service line, the other closer to the net.
-Player 1 lobs every second shot and player 2 hits alternately volleys and smashes.
-This is a warm up drill and players focus on keeping the ball in play.
-The drill can be done with or without rackets.
-Players swop round after approximately 3 minutes.
