Tennis: Imitate Volley With Correct Grip

Sportplan has been very helpful in guiding me through my first year...
Bill, Newly qualified coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Player inserts a pen between their hand and the grip of the racket.
  • Player uses a continental grip and imitates the volley movement.

COACHING POINTS

  • In this drill the player is working on feeling comfortable with continental grip.
  • A lot of beginners try to hit volleys with a forehand or backhand grip which might bring a positive short-term result but it can significantly limit their performance in the long-term.
  • From the start, players should try to hit balls with the continental grip so shadowing volleys with the correct grip is a great way to make numerous repetitions and feel more comfortable using this grip.
