DESCRIPTION

  • Coach stands in front of the player.
  • Coach throws a low ball to the forehand side.
  • Player steps forward and alternates catching/throwing the ball back to coach and hitting low forehand volley back to coach.

COACHING POINTS

  • Player has to focus on keeping a stable position with low legs and straight upper body.
  • Coach should remind players to firstly plant their leg on the court and then hit the ball for the optimal balance and control.
  • While hitting, the player should remember to keep the racket head open to be able to apply backspin and hit the ball over the net.
  • For more advanced players coach can throw random balls to forehand and backhand to improve reaction too and prepare player for the demands of advanced level of play.
