Tennis: Aim and Execute

Your tennis drills are extremely useful coaching tools.
Nail, Tennis coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Player stands at the net.
  • 4 zones are set on the court, 2 service boxes as 2 zones and 2 deep boxes behind the service line as another 2 zones. Zones are numbered from 1 to 4.
  • Coach feeds balls to the ad side.
  • Player says loudly the zone they are aiming at as they execute the volley.

COACHING POINTS

  • This drill is working on volley precision.
  • Playing with direction is important as hitting the ball out or straight to the opponent will likely result in a lost point.
  • By dividing court into 4 zones and forcing the player to say loudly where they are aiming at, coach can see clearly the preferences of the player and their decision making process.
  • To make this drill even more challenging, the coach can give 1 point to the player for a ball that lands in the zone and deduct 1 point every time the player misses the zone.
