Tennis: Protect Your Back

Sportplan has been very helpful in guiding me through my first year...
Bill, Newly qualified coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Player keeps posture with bending knees slightly and keeping upper body straight
  • Player grabs resistance band with both hands and performs pulling action towards the belly
  • Player tries to perform the action by working with the back muscles

COACHING POINTS

  • In this drill, player strengthens back muscles to prevent possible injuries
  • It is important to work on both sides of the body because of the specificity of the sport as tennis is
  • A lot of players have weaker non-dominant side of the body and this muscle imbalance can cause possible injuries
  • The player performs exercise with a resistance band to strengthen both sides at the same time and to be able to play intensive sessions without the danger of putting own back at risk
