Tennis: Tactical Awareness With Side Zones

Thank you very much for the marvellous site.
Nick, Tennis coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Player stands on the deuce side.
  • Coach serves to the T.
  • Player hits backhand return to the deuce side.
  • Coach hits the ball back in cross-court direction.
  • Player executes forehand down the line.

COACHING POINTS

  • Players works on learning how to build the point with the return.
  • Players have to understand that they have a chance to break the opponent if they plan their actions ahead and they feel comfortable with playing the balls into side zones.
  • By placing a return to one side, a player has a chance to move rivals with the next attempt and to put more pressure not only on this point but also on the plan of executing the next serve with more risk.
  • A coach can add specific zones to aim at and give points for every successful pattern the returner makes.
