Tennis: Serve And Build The Point With Forehand

Sportplan has been very helpful in guiding me through my first year...
Bill, Newly qualified coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Player serves wide from the ad side.
  • Coach feeds 2 balls to the ad side.
  • Player executes pattern using forehand inside in and forehand inside out.

COACHING POINTS

  • Player works on pattern using serve and forehand execution.
  • Serving wide from the ad side is a typical choice to open the court and make player hit expected cross-court return.
  • Good wide serve will not allow player to go for controlled down the line response so server can easily predict opponent's return and prepare own shots to get advantage.
  • Using inside in and inside out forehands is a good weapon to not only use own strength but also to make player run and make decisions under the pressure.
  • Because of good positioning on the ad side, server can easily run around balls that are played to the backhand as they also won't have problems if the opponent tries to go to the open space, which means again to the regular forehand of the server.
  • To make it more competitive, players can do this pattern together and play the point out after the last forehand.
