Tennis: Pressure & Surprise Opponent

Thank you very much for the marvellous site.
Nick, Tennis coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Player serves to the body from the ad side and comes into the net.
  • Coach feeds the ball to the deuce side.
  • Player finishes with a deep forehand volley cross-court.

COACHING POINTS

  • In this drill player works on a serving strategy based on a body serve from the ad side.
  • On fast surfaces a body serve is a great weapon that should be used regularly.
  • Serving to the body can surprise opponents and cramp them for room.
  • Adding coming to the net to this action can put even more pressure on the opponent and it is possible that they will miss the return.
  • Coach should tell players that they don’t need great volleys to use this strategy, just moving forward can be enough to win points during the match.
