Tennis: Deep Cross-Court & Short Down The Line

Your tennis drills are extremely useful coaching tools.
Nail, Tennis coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Player stands on the baseline.
  • Coach feeds balls to the forehand side.
  • Player alternates hitting a deep forehand slice cross-court and a forehand drop shot down the line.

COACHING POINTS

  • In this drill the player works on 2 different slice shots.
  • Hitting the ball deep in a cross-court direction is a basic tactical option to change the spin of the rally and to see how the opponent can respond to these balls.
  • It can be played offensively, neutrally or defensively so player can use the forehand slice in a cross-court direction in any situation on the court.
  • On the other hand, practicing drop shots down the line is another benefit of hitting with backspin but the player has to remember to keep the same backswing for both slices to keep the opponent guessing about the next shot.
  • By implementing different slices into own their game, the opponent will never know when to stay behind the baseline and wait for the deep ball and when to move forward to get to the difficult drop shot.
