Tennis: Prepare Deep & Finish Short

Your tennis drills are extremely useful coaching tools.
Nail, Tennis coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Player starts from the baseline.
  • Coach feeds a slow and high ball to the forehand side.
  • Player sprints forward and hits deep forehand volley on the run to the ad side.
  • Player follows to the net with the coach feeding a second ball to the ad side.
  • Player finishes with backhand stop volley cross-court.

COACHING POINTS

  • Most of the time, players practice volleys without running, which is unrealistic in a match situation, so they are not used to being able to run at full speed and controlling volley without stopping.
  • This kind of volley requires good distance perception.
  • The player should be trying to get as close to the net as possible on the 2nd volley to be able to hit the best possible stop volley.
