Tennis: Work On Your Balance

I love using Sportplan. It's been a great help for co-ordinating hockey...
Laura, Hockey Coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Coach stands on the player's side
  • Coach drops 2 balls from each position (in front of the player, on the side, behind the player). Player runs 2 times to each position and executes regular forehand with aim to keep balanced body

COACHING POINTS

  • In this drill, the player works on balance while hitting a forehand from different positions on the court
  • Player learns how to set up good distance to the ball and have control over the body and the racket to play quality shots without mistakes
  • The coach should pay attention to the player's footwork and also to the body control while hitting because if a player has any flaws in this simple environment, mistakes will start to multiply while playing in more demanding environment under the pressure
  • For more advanced athletes, the coach can increase the number of balls in the set to see how being tired affects player's quality of shots
