In a rally with the coach the player must hit the ball in a given pattern.
Moving from one side of the court to the other the player will focus solely on playing 2 forehand cross court shots and 1 forehand inside in.
It is important to create any pattern from the tactical perspective so it helps players improve more skills at the same time.
Hitting forehand cross court after hitting forehand inside in is a tactical approach to recover quickly to the deuce side after hitting to the opponent's forehand (proper recovery position after forehand inside in is all the way on the other side).
Notes
Rallying with the player is a great teaching tool because the coach can deliver consistent balls. Hitting in a given pattern is an opportunity to make huge improvements in a game because the player doesn't have to worry about anything unexpected. Player knows where the ball will go so he/she can focus solely on own strokes.
