DESCRIPTION

The player serves wide from the deuce side and the coach feeds high ball to the forehand side. The player moves forward and hits forehand drive in the air to the ad side.

COACHING POINTS

Serving is an advantage that coaches have to teach players how to use effectively. Slice serve is a great tactical weapon to open the court from the deuce side and create an opportunity to finish the point with the next shot. Developing different tactical patterns based on serve puts server in a comfortable position even while playing against good opponents so all players should have few scenarios that they are able to execute whenever they want.

In this drill, the player works on tactical pattern based on wide serve and forehand in the air. Wide serve is crucial to create an advantage so players have to learn how to perform it consistently. The coach should teach players to focus on placement instead of power so they can make the ball go outside the sideline before it reaches service line. After a great serve, the player should focus on reaction to the high ball and develop habit to move inside the court and take the ball out of the air to be offensive and shorten opponent's time for recovery. The coach can vary balls to make to make them more difficult to finish so basically this drill can be used with different levels of players.
