Tennis: Mix Height, Spin & Depth

Thank you very much for the marvellous site.
Nick, Tennis coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Coach feeds the ball to the ad side.
  • Player runs around and hits a deep high topspin forehand inside out.
  • Coach feeds another ball to the deuce side.
  • Player finishes with a forehand drop shot cross-court.

COACHING POINTS

  • In this drill the player works on putting pressure on their rival by using forehands with different spins, heights and depths.
  • Hitting a high topspin shot to the opponent’s backhand is a proven strategy to put a rival behind the baseline and force them to deliver easier shot.
  • If the next ball is short there is a big chance that the opponent will maintain a defensive position so hitting a drop shot in the other direction can result in a straight winner.
  • For more advanced players the coach can add a serve/return at the beginning of the pattern to make it more similar to the match’s conditions.
