Tennis: Control the Point from the Center

Thank you very much for the marvellous site.
Nick, Tennis coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Cones are set up in deuce and ad corners.
  • Coach feeds balls to the center of the court.
  • Player alternates hitting deep forehands to deuce and ad side from the center.

COACHING POINTS

  • Player learns how to direct balls to the side zones while playing from the center area. It is not easy to play off the center area because player has to go away from the ball to set up good hitting platform.
  • Coach should teach players to make space between the body and ball and try to stop before hitting to achieve optimal balance through the shot.
  • Coach should make players aware that hitting deep to the corners is a must to put the opponent on the run and prepare the next shot to be a winner.
  • For better players coach can feed balls using different spins to see if the player can adjust their technique to the incoming ball.
