Tennis: Contact With Coach

Your tennis drills are extremely useful coaching tools.
Nail, Tennis coach

DESCRIPTION

The coach stands in front of the player and keeps their racquet facing the player, holding it in the same position.

The player imitates a forehand and moves their racquet forward to touch the coach's racquet.

COACHING POINTS

When trying to improve topspin shots, many players fall into the trap and they move their racquet across the body. This lack of extension results in a good amount of topspin but also it lacks depth.

Coaches have to teach players how to hit balls with extension to make them able to hit more aggressive shots. In this exercise, player has a visible target to go to so it is quite simple to quickly achieve the goal.

After few successful attempts, coach can toss some balls to see player's improvements. Coach should toss shorter balls to force player to extend to the ball and contact the ball more in front of the body.
