Tennis: Closed Stance With Weight Transfer

Sportplan has been very helpful in guiding me through my first year...
Bill, Newly qualified coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Cones are set in front of the player.
  • Cones show the player how they should use their legs while performing a closed stance forehand.
  • Player imitates a forehand closed stance stroke and moves their back leg forward after the shot towards the cone.

COACHING POINTS

  • In this drill player works on the quality of their weight transfer while using a closed stance.
  • A lot of short balls are attacked using closed stance shots so it's important to make sure that they hit the ball in the most effective way.
  • By loading the hips and uncoiling them in a forward motion (back leg finishes in front of the other) players use their whole body and a forward motion will help them win more points at the net.
