Tennis: Change Direction & Change Pace

Sportplan has been very helpful in guiding me through my first year...
Bill, Newly qualified coach

DESCRIPTION

  • The player stands on the baseline
  • Coach alternates feeding deep and short balls to the deuce side
  • The player hits forehand cross-court from the baseline, attacking forehand down the line from the mid court, forehand down the line from the baseline and attacking forehand cross-court from the mid court area

COACHING POINTS

  • In this drill, the player works on regular and attacking forehand
  • From the baseline, player should aim higher over the net and with topspin
  • Proper depth is the goal to keep opponent away from the baseline. From the mid court area, the goal changes and player should take more risk
  • He should aim lower over the net and the ball should be hit with less topspin to increase the power
  • If the player achieves good quality, coach can give command about the direction of the hit while feeding to challenge the player and give him less time for preparation
