Tennis: Visible Weakness

Sportplan has been very helpful in guiding me through my first year...
Bill, Newly qualified coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Coach feeds one short ball and one deeper ball to the ad side.
  • Player moves forward to the short ball and hits an offensive backhand cross-court.
  • Player then recovers and moves back to the deeper ball and hits forehand topspin inside out.

COACHING POINTS

  • In this drill player learns how to choose one area on the court and exploit it maximally.
  • A lot of opponents have weaker backhands than forehands so being able to hit the ball to players backhand side over and over again is a key skill to take advantage of a weakness.
  • It is important to understand that a player should not only hit the ball in one direction but also should apply different speed, trajectory and spin to make the return more uncomfortable.
