Thank you very much for the marvellous site.
Nick, Tennis coach

DESCRIPTION

  • In this drill, player works on slice skills while using different footwork patterns
  • Player stands on the deuce side
  • Coach feeds balls to the ad side
  • Player alternates hitting backhand slice in balanced position and backhand slice while sliding

COACHING POINTS

  • It is crucial to try to achieve balanced position before the hit but the situation on the court will demand if player has more or less time to get to the ball
  • Player should feel comfortable in both cases so stopping before the hit as well as sliding before touching the ball are two options that have to be trained
  • Coach should remind players to always put weight on front leg and they should always make the last step wider to guarantee balanced position
  • Coach should also pay attention to the upper body of the player and control the upper body posture because many players tend to bend down with their upper body especially while responding to lower balls
