Thomas

DESCRIPTION

  • Player starts from the service line
  • The coach feeds high balls to the backhand side
  • The player alternates hitting deep backhand volley down the line and angle backhand volley cross-court

COACHING POINTS

  • In this drill, player works on specific type of volley that is played from high balls on the backhand side
  • Technically, these are not really demanding shots but specific adaptations are needed to be able to vary successfully own responses
  • Player has to remember to load their left leg so they're able to transfer the weight forward
  • It allows them to adjust their position to high balls. With racket work, deep balls require movement from high to low to bring the ball down while angle balls require early racket face preparation in the phase of backswing and movement more across the body while hitting
