DESCRIPTION

  • Player stands on the baseline
  • Coach stands in front of the player
  • Coach feeds deeper ball to the backhand side
  • Player moves back, loads back leg and hits backhand slice

COACHING POINTS

  • A lot of players try to respond to deep ball with slice that is hit from the front leg
  • That’s a big mistake because they limit their time after the bounce to prepare and execute effective backspin shot
  • By moving back and loading back leg, player gets more time as also he has more space to control this ball
  • Coach has to pay attention to the ability to keep balance on loading leg and if it is problematic, fitness drills should be incorporated to prepare body for the demands of defensive game
