Tennis: Repetitive cross-court

Thank you very much for the marvellous site.
Nick, Tennis coach

DESCRIPTION

The coach throws the balls to the backhand side, and the player hits backhand cross-court back to the coach.

COACHING POINTS

Learning any skills in tennis can be easy if the coach uses simple and proven techniques. Throwing the ball is one of the best ways to give a chance for successful shots because the coach can control the ball as also it doesn't have too much pace. That is why while working on new skills coaches have to remember to use proper balls and throwing technique to make process much easier for kids.

In this drill the player works on basic backhand skills. The primary goal of this exercise is to hit the ball over the net. The secondary goal is to make it cross-court. The coach should give positive comments after successful hits but he should also give little technical remarks if there are some visible limitations in a stroke. It is important to challenge kids all the time so if the success rate is high, the coach should make some modifications to keep their players interested.
