A hoop is set as a target in a standing position on the deuce side. Coach throws the ball to the backhand side, and the player tries to hit backhand down the line. The aim is for the ball to land inside the hoop.
Many kids struggle with control of their shots because they hit the ball too hard. By placing the hoop as a target on the court, kids start to understand that slower balls have more chances to get inside. Using variety of tools while working with kids is a necessity to accelerate the progress.
In this drill, player works on the backhand control in a down the line direction. The hoop gives a constant target to kids so the coach can observe how they react to it. With progression, the coach can make it competitive and see who can hit more balls inside the hoop.
