Tennis: Check opponent's backhand

Thanks for everything! Sportplan has helped me to improve my tennis...
Andrea, Tennis coach

DESCRIPTION

The coach serves to the T from the ad side, and the player hits a forehand return cross-court. The coach then feeds the ball to the backhand, with the player hitting a backhand cross-court return. Repeat this process until neccessary.

COACHING POINTS

Most of the players have weaker backhand than forehand so we should base our strategy on this factor. From the first shot in the point, players should hit the ball to the weaker side to put the opponent under pressure.

In this drill, the player works on return and the next shot. All balls are placed deep into the backhand corner to learn how to move the opponent back. Many players are not able to successfully answer 2 consecutive balls into their weaker side so this tactic can bring unforced errors or easy balls to put away.
